FAQs (permanent jewelry)
What is Permanent Jewelry?
Permanent Jewelry is a high quality, dainty chain of your choice that we cut & custom fit onto you as a permanent bracelet, anklet, ring, or necklace. We then micro-weld the piece of jewelry together, creating a clasp-less piece of fine jewelry that you keep on always, or until you decide to cut it off.
We like to think of our permanent jewelry as a sort of “Best Friends Forever” bracelet, only instead of floss or string, you’re getting fine jewelry. The experience of coming in to get permanent jewelry with your loved ones can be symbolic as “forever” jewelry symbolizes a forever bond between you and your loved ones. Whether you come in with your best friends, significant other, family members, or even as an act of self-love, the experience is a special one that we know you’ll love.
How does it work?
When you come in for your appointment, we will sit down with you to explain the process and go over your different chain options. You will choose the style of chain that best suits your lifestyle and budget. You will also have the option of adding charms or connectors to further customize your piece. After you make your selections, we will size the jewelry to your liking and secure it using a 14k solid gold jump ring. Lastly, with one tiny flash, we will micro-weld your jump ring, securing the jewelry together.
Does it hurt?
Not at all! Understandably, we get this question a lot, but the process is quick and completely painless. In fact, you won’t feel a thing when we weld your piece together.
What if I want to take it off?
Taking your permanent jewelry off is simple and we will show you how before you leave your appointment. You can take your piece off by yourself at home by simply cutting the jump ring with cutters or kitchen scissors. Or, you can come in store and we can do it for you. Make sure to keep your chain though - you can have it re-welded at a later date. We recommend keeping the chain in a ziplock or jewelry bag.
Keep in mind, all permanent jewelry is final sale. We do not offer refunds on permanent jewelry, however, if you want to switch your chain out for a new style in the future, we will recycle your old chain and give you a 10% discount off the price of a new chain.
Will it break or tarnish over time?
No. Our 14k solid gold chains are an investment at a higher price point, but they retain their value and are truly lifetime pieces that can be worn without worrying about tarnishing. We do recommend our 14k solid (white & yellow) gold options, but understand it is not within everyone’s budget so we also offer 14k gold filled as well as sterling silver chains.
Gold filled is a popular and affordable alternative to solid gold. Unlike gold plated pieces, gold filled can last many years with proper care. However, there is a common misconception around gold filled jewelry and despite what is often advertised, this material can tarnish over time with everyday wear. This is dependent on a number of different things including lifestyle, environmental factors, and even your body chemistry. Even if these factors are present, it’s likely your gold-filled piece will last years before you see any tarnishing, so this is still a great option for many of our customers. Similarly, sterling silver is offered as an alternative to 14k solid white gold, however, discoloration can occur over time if exposed to certain chemicals or environmental factors. There are ways to polish your pieces and restore its original shine if discoloration does occur in the future and we will discuss all of this with you during your appointment.
We have tested each one of our pieces for strength and durability and have eliminated those that did not meet our standards. Although we use the highest quality chains available, none of them are indestructible. These pieces are still fine jewelry and can break if snagged or pulled hard enough. Nevertheless, we have a very low number of breaks and with normal wear and care, your jewelry should stay on until you choose to remove it. However, we do offer a 60-day guarantee on each of our pieces. If your jewelry breaks for any reason, just bring the original chain back within that 60-day window and we will fix it for free. After those 60 days, bring the original chain in and we will charge a $10 repair fee for the cost of a new jump-ring and your re-weld.
*Please note that we are not liable for lost chains or chains stretched beyond repair.
